The Armenian Church Representative Assembly is an authorized body by the National Ecclesiastical Assembly convened in 1995, and, by the decision of the National Ecclesiastical Assembly, first of all, it is called to work on the Constitution of the Armenian Church ( Diocesan Bylaws Guidelines, Church Representative, Bishops and SSC Bylaws); as well as to discuss the important issues in church life, to make decisions and implement them.
After the Independence of the Republic of Armenia, the National Ecclesiastical Assemblies were convened only on the occasions of the Patriarchal elections (in 1995 and 1999). Considering that it is practically impossible to regularly convene National Ecclesiastical Assemblies, it was decided to convene Diocesan Representative Assemblies in the interim period of the National Church Assemblies (Since 2012, the Diocesan Representative Assembly has renamed as the Church Representative Assembly), the decisions of which must be ratified by the National Church Assembly.
Till today, Church Representative Assemblies were convened in 1997, 2003, 2009, 2012, 2014 and 2017.
